Boiler Installation: Shuttle tanker Peary Spirit visits Mekjarvik
The 250-meter-long ship transports oil from offshore platforms to shore. The ship was recently in Mekjarvik for boiler installation, an operation that requires careful planning and compliance with technical and safety requirements.

The Peary Spirit is a large ship, a full 250 meters long. When transporting crude oil, the oil must be kept warm so that it does not become too thick and difficult to pump. A boiler on the ship creates steam, which heats both the cargo holds and the pipes, so that the oil remains liquid and can be easily pumped in and out.
Some ships also use the boiler to produce electricity on board. It can be part of the ship's power supply for everything from lighting to operational equipment.
The boiler can also have multiple functions in the operation of the shuttle tanker.
The ship recently had a new boiler installed at GMC in Mekjarvik, where Glenn Vatland (Project Lead, GMC Maritime) and the team ensured an efficient process.

– For a shuttle tanker like this, there are special regulations and standards that must be followed. We have worked hard to prepare the installation in advance so that everything runs smoothly from the ship arriving at the quay here in Mekjarvik until it departs again, says Glenn Vatland, Project Lead at GMC Maritime.
With a new boiler on board, the ship will have more flexibility in the crossing and handling of the oil being transported.
We thank Altera for their trust and good cooperation in the project.
