Pressure testing for Equinor Mongstad
GMC HVAC recently conducted a pressure test at the Mongstad facility, as part of its efforts to secure operations and avoid unwanted incidents. The test was conducted to verify that the building is leak-proof. This is crucial to meeting stricter operational safety requirements now and in the future.

Framework agreement with Equinor
GMC HVAC has a framework agreement with Equinor for the operation of HVAC systems at the refinery.
– Our HVAC technicians and engineers have expertise in ventilation and balancing. We deliver everything within ventilation systems, cooling systems and automation for these systems. With a pressure test like this, we ensure that we increase the safety of the building at the refinery at Mongstad. GMC ensures that all pressure tests are carried out in accordance with industry standards and regulations – and that creates security, says Tom Harestad, senior HVAC Engineer at GMC HVAC.
The advantage of a pressure test is that you can check the integrity of the building. You can also consider sealing measures to protect against gas ingress in the event of potential accidents.
At Mongstad, the building must be pressurised by “safe by ventilation” to prevent gas ingress and meet PS2 requirements from PETIL.

– Commissioning or adjustment of ventilation systems is done so that there is overpressure in the building, more air in the building than outside so that the air is forced out, not the other way around. This is due to gas hazards and dust, for example. It is especially nice when the customer is satisfied, says Harestad.
Alf Egil Holland from Multiconsult Bergen is designing the facilities for Equinor at Mongstad. He thanks GMC for the good cooperation and thorough implementation of the project.
