GMC strengthens its commitment to Gismarvik base
The Stavanger-based group GMC is now strengthening its investment in Gismarvik Base in Haugaland Business Park. The base will be an important place for the green shift in industry.

– The industrial group GMC aims to grow, also within new and green areas. Haugalandet is an exciting region in terms of sustainable development, and for GMC it is important to be present in the region, says Thomas A. Vang, CEO of GMC.
Vang started as CEO of GMC in September and is excited about developments in the industry.
– The optimism in the industry gives us good grounds for further development and growth. Increased presence in Gismarvik is an important part of this initiative, says Vang.
Pit stop for maritime services
Gismarvik Base consists of port facilities and a deep-water quay. The base is a hub for logistics at sea and on the E39 and E134.
– We experience good networks and a very high level of expertise in the region around Gismarvik. We use skilled local suppliers within various professions. This gives Gismarvik Base the opportunity to function as a pit stop for maritime services and maintenance, a green hub for the industry, says Bengt Olav Gåsøy, CEO of GMC Marine Partner.
GMC is responsible for operations and facilities in the port. Gismarvik Base consists of large workshop and warehouse halls, office buildings and cloakroom facilities, as well as machinery and equipment for efficient logistics. The large port areas are used for both short and long-term leases.
– GMC offers a wide range of services within ship service, base logistics and marine operations. We have everything from electrical and automation, ship repair, base logistics and warehousing, to the rental of heavy maritime equipment to industries operating offshore. In Stavanger, our main base is in Mekjarvik, but we have assignments both onshore and offshore. Now we will also offer a valuable total package to old and new customers from Gismarvik. We have great faith in the future of Haugaland Næringspark, says Thomas A. Vang.

Important role for the region
– Haugaland Næringspark is Norway's largest fully regulated industrial area. It is located in the center of significant industrial activity. The park has a clear ambition to attract green industry and players with a need for large areas and energy. We are now ready for more exciting projects and look forward to a good collaboration with GMC in the future, says Tiril Fjeld, general manager of Haugaland Næringspark.
The large areas in Gismarvik Base proved to be very favorable in the project of the American technology company Makani. The technology company tested a flying kite that produces electricity at sea. Following this project, several area-intensive projects within renewable energy have been implemented.
– The sheltered location in Gismarvik is very good in terms of depths and approach. In addition, there is proximity to strategic locations on the shelf. When we are in dialogue with actors working towards offshore wind projects, they get a little goosebumps when they see the facility. You almost have to see it with your own eyes, the area is very large, says Gåsøy.
Key person in place
In December, Torgeir Strøm started as operations manager at Gismarvik Base. Strøm will be a key person in the operator role of GMC in the harbor. GMC will be a link between the players in the park and facilitate activities for those who want to do activities at the base.
– I have been looking forward to taking on the assignment and am looking forward to working with exciting projects and various actors here in Gismarvik, says Strøm.
– Haugaland Business Park has great potential, and we will now help make Gismarvik Base an attractive choice for sustainable projects, says Gåsøy.
