This is the woman who will make GMC's workdays even safer
"Safety for our employees at work for GMC is our most important mission to deliver on. We are very pleased to have Ida on the GMC team - and with her human approach she will contribute to making us even better at HSE at our company," says Thomas A. Vang, CEO of GMC on Ida Perander's first day with us. Ida takes on the role of HSE Manager at GMC Holding.

Ida comes from the position as HSE Manager at Hydro Energi and has extensive experience from HSE work in demanding industrial and energy environments. She has a master's degree in social security and risk management from the University of Stavanger, and brings with her a clear vision for how good systems and good working days are connected.

"HMSK is more than just holding onto railings and wearing a helmet and goggles. It's about making a system work – one that both makes you operate well and feels good at work," says Ida when we joined her on the inspection tour of the dock.

It's a stormy day with rain and strong gusts of wind, but that doesn't stop Ida from taking the opportunity to get to know both people and the professional community. Her commitment is easy to see.

When major operations become the norm
"We handle operations with high potential for injury every day - when we do such things, risk often becomes normal. It is then extra important that we have a good culture and good systems that ensure that we make the right choices - even when big things become normal," says Thomas A. Vang, CEO of GMC.
Must see the people
When we ask what qualities are required of an HSE manager, the answer comes immediately: "You must be able to see the needs of the organization, and the organization is people."
For Ida, HSE is about more than routines and procedures. It is about culture, dialogue and being close to the everyday lives of those who work in and around GMC's businesses.
After her first week with us, she has managed to get to know the organization and the people behind it better. "The welcome has been great! I have met many, but far from everyone. I have a good plan for next week to travel around even more and meet even more people," Ida concludes.
