New leader at GMC Power & Automation: Ready to create a winning team
GMC Power & Automation gets a new CEO. Kenneth Eichner takes over the baton.

– We have now advertised many new and exciting positions. We will strengthen ourselves considerably and gain a much greater foothold in the market, says Kenneth Eichner, new CEO of GMC Power & Automation AS.
– Don't you hear where I'm from?
– Yes, but it's not the city of Bergen, is it?
– I'm from Askøy, says Eichner.
Originally from Askøy outside Bergen, and with over 20 years of experience in the electrical industry, Eichner has worked at companies such as Aker Solutions, Agile Rig & Modules and Elektroskandia. Now he is ready to scale up a company with great potential.
People first
– We have a lot of exciting things going on now and have a bright future. That's why we need more talented colleagues who can help develop the company further and contribute to growth. My focus is on building good teams. I emphasize getting the other team players to do their best in their areas, and not least the interaction with the rest of the team. At the same time, we must not forget that it should be fun at work, and the satisfaction factor should be high here, says Eichner.

No two days are the same at work.
Erik Pedersen has worked at GMC for six years, last year he became chairman and now he quality assures the work.
– The projects here are varied. The ships, rigs and offshore units we are on board have different systems that we have to familiarize ourselves with. In addition, you are welcome to take a sea voyage, once the team ended up in the Lysefjord, says Pedersen.
– We have very varied work tasks. The days can consist of everything from conversions, to new construction and urgent troubleshooting when a vessel has a generator failure. We are working on this breadth in the future, and are gearing up to welcome even more customers, says Eichner.

Apply for a job at GMC, why?
– First of all, the company is in an exciting development. And another very good point – and a lot of the reason why I started here – is that we are part of a family-owned group. We also notice this outside the company and we are on a personal level. With us, you are not one of many and a number in a row, but you work in a company with good headroom. If you have something on your mind, come along – my door is always open, says Eichner.
Build your career
Variety in projects gives you broad experience. And with work experience at GMC, you get to challenge your electrical engineering certificate to a great extent. According to Eichner, the opportunities are many with work experience at the company.
“After a few years of experience with us, you are a very sought-after and knowledgeable electrician. Fortunately, most of us stay with us for many, many years,” smiles Eichner.
– Some try their hand elsewhere, but it has been shown that they come back and we are happy about that. In addition, some want to take a couple of years of further education at a vocational school, or go for a master's degree. We encourage skills development and targeted work here. When someone wants more challenges and more weight, we as a company have the opportunity to expand with more skilled project managers in the long term.
