Aurora Storm in 10th grade
The ship Aurora Storm from the Aurora Offshore fleet was recently docked at the GMC shipyard for a 10-year classification.
– It is always a pleasure to work with Aurora Offshore. In addition, it has been very rewarding to be the project manager on Sara Søreng's first docking as Inspector. Working with the inspector and crew has been a real pleasure, says Eirik Fjone, project manager at GMC Yard.
Much has been improved during the classification, and as with most dockings, some additional improvements emerged along the way on various systems on board.
The ship has now received a full overhaul of both propellers and machining of 16 propeller blades, to name a few.
– Despite the additional improvements, the docking was carried out on the planned date. This is thanks to the efforts of our employees, subcontractors, crew and inspector at Aurora Storm, says Fjone.
Aurora Offshore Inspector Sara Søreng works as a technical inspector for four ships. The 10-year classification of Aurora Storm is her first time in charge of a docking project:
– My time at GMC has been very valuable to me, especially since this is a completely new process. I find that everyone who works there is committed to sharing their knowledge, and they are always open to collaborating to find the best solutions to the challenges we face. Open and honest dialogue is a big part of the collaboration, and it is easy to get in touch to get quick and concrete feedback on anything you may be wondering about or need help with. This creates a trusting and efficient workflow, where we work together towards common goals.
Some of the jobs performed during the grading :
- Inspection and certification of temperature valves
- Cleaning and checking electrical panels
- Hull flushing and new topcoat
- New antifouling
- Replacement and maintenance of bottom valves
- Service and certification of mob boat Davit
- Provision crane and lifting equipment
- Cleaning ventilation and installing inspection hatches
- Checking and replacing pipes
- Installation of system for approval to the IBC code

– My time at GMC has been very valuable to me, especially since this is a completely new process. I find everyone who works there committed to sharing their knowledge, and they are always open to collaborating to find the best solutions to the challenges we face, says Sara Søreng, inspector at Aurora Offshore.
We thank Aurora Offshore for their trust.
