Attractive docking in Stavanger - Here we are in the middle of the action

Docking
October 17, 2022

It's a new day at GMC Yard on Buøy in Stavanger. At half past eight, several people are gathered at the coffee machine. The morning meeting is underway.

– I would prefer to be in two places at the same time today – that's not possible – so I'm wondering if you, Tom, can take one of the meetings later today? Asks project manager Eirik Fjone.

Matters are clarified and time-critical activities in ongoing projects are planned. The last details of the day are coordinated. But the pace is fast, and when the meeting is over, everyone goes their separate ways.

Full control over the numbers

For Tom Eiane, the day started at seven. 22 years ago, he started as an engine mechanic at GMC. Over the years, he gained experience and expertise, and has risen through the ranks with leading roles in the company. Tom Eiane has now been Bid Manager for five years – and then it's about keeping track of the numbers.

– I am working on designing price offers for the two docks we operate here, says Eiane.

With good experience and long service in the company, Eiane knows the customers and partners well. The price offers that are designed go down to the smallest detail, and consist of a long list of points to be estimated. The offer is then sent to the customer with subsequent customer contact and negotiation to “land” the contract.

Perfect location

The docks that GMC Yard on Buøy operates are conveniently located along Norway's west coast.

– Our location here in Stavanger is very favorable geographically, as we are close to large parts of the offshore fleet that sails in and out of the Norwegian and English sectors in addition to other shipping traffic in the North Sea, we are actually located in the middle of the buttery sea, says Eiane and adds:

– In addition, we have access to service from other world-class subcontractors in the Stavanger region. Here, the distance to both the airport and ports is short, which provides quick access to spare parts and service personnel with specialized expertise. It is crucial for the customer that the time spent at the workshop is as short as possible.
